Damien Hodgkinson

Executive Director, Melbourne International Comedy Festival

Damien works as the Executive Director with Melbourne International Comedy Festival. His career includes leadership positions in the areas of organisational management and governance, communications and marketing, and private support. His executive and non-executive experience crosses festivals, performing arts, visual arts, artists with a disability, arts for young people and tertiary arts education; and he has held national leadership roles in the government, not-for-profit and corporate sectors.

Recent appointments include roles as Executive Director Operations & Company Secretary with the Australia Business Arts Foundation and General Manager/CEO of Melbourne Fringe.

Damien serves as Vice President of Arts Project Australia and is a Board Member of the Georges Mora Fellowship. He is also a Member of the Academic Advisory Board for the Arts and Cultural Management Program in the Faculty of Business and Law at Deakin University.

Panel: The Business of Making an Australian Event an International Success: lessons learnt from successful high profile events produced in Australia which have both local and international audiences

Damien will take part in an opening panel that will ‘set the scene’ on the business aspect of the events sector within Australia. Taking the position of CEOs who lead high profile successful events and senior level influencers to and within the sector, the panel will discuss the highs and lows of the events business and what we’re doing right (and wrong) with Australia’s position within the global marketplace. The focus will be on lessons learned and how you can apply this to your business to also achieve success.
